Airtel's unlimited plans - scamming customers
From next month onwards (march 2009), unlimited connections in airtel are not unlimited anymore - atleast the 1MBps connection I have is not going to be so (I was told all their unlimited plans are impacted).
But this is subtext of the plan and not spelled out very visibly (for example - it is still called unlimited !) - essentially they have set a 'threshold', and if you exceed this arbitrary download limit, your bandwidth is halved.
Consider how flackey their metering is (I have been at recieving end of this quite a bunch of times), this is just a fertile ground for airtel to pull a fast one on customers : assuming the above is not enough of a scam !
Time to start contemplating alternatives ...

So if you exceed you are punished by halving the b/w. But how long is the timeout? Will they restore the 1M speed after you are good for a week?
@noufal - they sent me a courier, and I called up their call center to learn more.
Last I checked their website was yet to be updated with details ... though that might change soon.
@kousik
Once you exceed their initial limit, bandwidth is halved for rest of month ... which sucks bigtime !
Considering how shoddy I have found their metering to be (enough hassles with that in past !) this is going to be a contentious issue between me and airtel every other month :-)
dont try tata indicom :P
or reliance
I agree

This sucks big time. I will cross their first initial limit in the first week itself probably :(.
They should reduce their tariff rates if they are planning to do this (any ideas on this?). I mean their tariff is only "affordable" (not saying reasonable) if they live up to their promise of 1Mbps unlimited (throughout).

Maybe it'll help...
