My Latest obsession ...
is programming my GPU - using nVidia's CUDA :-)
Quite interesting to try out things ... in an env which strips out most of the things I take for granted, while changing the execution environment quite a bit.
For example, my XFX alphadog 8800 GT has 112 stream procs ... other than while hacking on a borrowed niagara box (which had 32 cores iirc : and that was a core + ht env, as opposed to just cores), I have not worked in such a massively parallel env - so things are interesting !
Another interesting twist is the whole notion of latency - the latency difference in hitting different types of memory is way too drastic not to account for - and can completely change performance characterstics in this env ... which makes for some interesting expiriments !
The actual reason for posting this is this link - the dealers from where you can buy a 4 TFlop nVidia Tesla 'supercomp'. In particular - THIS - 5 Lakhs anyone ? :-)
